Declaring God’s Mighty Strength

A trained warrior, as well as the king of a very powerful nation, David was a wise politician, husband, and father.

Yet above all that he did, he was first and foremost a follower of God. David is called in God’s Word as “a man after God’s own heart.” David was a man whose desire and intent was in hot pursuit of God’s will.

One can read about and see the closeness of their relationship throughout the pages of the Bible,

specifically the Psalms many of which were penned by David.

Focused and fearless on the battlefield continuously trusting in the wisdom of God. David was bold

in his approach to God; respectful and honorable. However this wasn’t something that just happened overnight.

His relationship with God grew and was nurtured as David sought God’s wise counsel

and guidance in prayer, even as a young man.

For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my trust from my youth

and the source of my confidence. Upon You have I leaned and relied from birth;

You are He Who took me from my mother’s womb and have been my

benefactor from that day. My praise is continually of You.

Psalm 71:5-6 (Amplified Bible)

Life certainly wasn’t always a bed of roses either. David faced all of the pressures and temptations

of a man in his position of responsibility and expertise. Yet his desire to live faithful and steadfast

for God remained his motto and creed.

I am a wonder and a surprise to many, but You are my strong refuge.

My mouth shall be filled with Your praise and with Your honor all the day.

Psalm 71:7-8 (Amplified Bible)

Success was not because of his brilliance as a military commander, or a wise king. David’s success was because

of his unquestioning confidence in the goodness of God to love him and deliver him, no matter the situation.

Today, David’s life continues to be a source of inspiration. He wasn’t perfect, he made his share of mistakes, but his motivation and intent was to live right before God to the end.

Yes, even when I am old and grey-headed, O God, forsake me not,

but keep me alive untilI have declared Your mighty strength to this generation,

and Your might and power to all that are to come.

Psalm 71:18 (Amplified Bible)

What a man David must have been! He was a man of astute wisdom and understanding in the affairs of life

and leadership and a great example of humility and meekness, determination and perseverance

to do "life" God’s way. We don’t face any new or different challenges today than David did in the Old Testament. Technology may move faster and “things” may be more sophisticated, but the core of our lives

have not changed a bit. We all seek to love and be loved, to accomplish and be successful,

to leave a lasting legacy that will bless and inspire our families and others.

Throughout history those that have gone before us and laid their lives on the line for the freedoms of others,

for God and Country are inspiring examples. For those who serve and daily lay their lives on the line for others today. Thank you!

You know who you are and we thank God for your life and service. You are continually in our thoughts and prayers.
